I bought this book this weekend, and decided to let my 9 yr old nephew pick out the recipes he thought sounded good for dinner. He picked a pasta side dish, and both a chicken and a pork entree. My intention was to just let him pick out the recipes, but they were so simple he ended up making the entire meal virtually by himself (with adult supervision of course). They came out wonderful, and what a self-esteem boost for him, he thinks he's a master chef now! With so few ingreedients and steps for each recipe, it's impossible for even a novice to go wrong.
One of the other things I like about this book is that many of the recipes use items that are staples in most people's fridge and pantry, perfect for people like me who hate grocery shopping and don't always have a master plan for meals. I would suggest though that you make low-fat, low-sodium substitutions whenever possible, because these recipes are quick and easy, not necessarily balanced and diet-friendly. A lot of these recipes rely on canned goods for their convenient nature, but they can contain a lot of fat and sodium. Get the 99% fat free condensed soups, and get low-sodium teriyaki and soy sauces. These small adjustments will make a big difference for your health over time without sacrificing yummy flavor.
That being said, I am purchasing this book for my brother, and it will be a staple on my list for baby and bridal shower gifts. If you are notoriously busy, think you don't know how to cook, or find yourself eating out more than in, get this book! You're bound to find something you can make for dinner tonight. Enjoy!
