(More customer reviews)My husband and I went to Tahiti for our honeymoon. I saw this book on Amazon.com and I just had to have it. The pictures, facts and drinks were amazing!
I decided to have a Tahitian party last weekend with my family and friends. I was able to recreate the Tahitian cocktails we had on our honeymoon and share some interesting facts about the islands, as well as, the hotels in the French Polynesia. The cocktails were so easy to make and they looked so festive. I was able to recreate the look of the cocktail by using the pictures in the book. Everyone at my party kept raving about how much they loved what they were drinking and wanted to see the Tahitian cocktail book. After looking at the book - they just had to have a copy. I was so excited about their requests, I can order this book on-line and have it shipped to my home just in time for Christmas. I do not have to "fight" the crowds at the mall! My party was a huge Tahitian success!
If you want to bring the French Polynesia Islands to your home and experience paradise - I highly recommend this book. Thank you for making my party festive and memorable!!!

It's nice that it is laid out by type of liquor, so it makes it easy to figure out a good cocktail for whatever liquor you have on hand. Basic cocktail recipes, with variations for each one. A nice book to have around.

I've always been able to find "cold" beverage recipe books that are mostly enjoyed during warm weather (or on a beach!), but not one that has warm drinks for the cooler months. It's a handy guide for making "festive" drinks for the fall and winter months but it also includes coffee and tea recipes that can be enjoyed year-round. It has recipes for one or for a group which is great for entertaining for the upcoming holidays. The recipes are easy to follow and your mouth will water just looking at the gorgeous pictures of these wonderful drinks! SO many recipes are packed in this small package, it would make a great gift for your favorite party hostess. Kara organizes these drink recipes by season (of the year) with the aim of showcasing fresh, seasonal ingredients. The "Wasabi-Tini" ushers in spring (a caveat: wasabi-ize with the utmost care). Summer's "Watermelon Hot" combines freshly pulsed watermelon with green Thai chilies to allay (or perhaps obliterate) the worst of those dog days. Autumn's "Mule Kick" is a variant of the "Moscow Mule," using jalapeño-infused Vodka. Winter's "Mexican Hot Chocolate" is a multi-step recipe but evidently worth the trouble: hot chocolate with Kahluá plus a half teaspoon of a "Mexican Spice Mix" composed of chili powder, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, cloves, and nutmeg.
A good solid third of the book involves preparation and method, how to handle spices, spicy cocktail food pairings, and an especially eye-opening (if not eye-watering) section on how to make spice-infused liquors and syrups.
Extremely valuable.

Seagram's New Official Bartender's Guide Review

(More customer reviews)The Seagram's book is an OK book. It reminds me a lot of the Mr. Boston book. Unlike one of the reviewer's below I could not find "Caesar" in the book-maybe there is a newer addition than the 1995 version I have (although this seems to be the one that Amazon is selling). I also could not find some of the popular drinks like "Bellini" or "Caipirinha." I like the Ultimate A-to-Z Bar Guide much better. Pulpfoto's review below says "The Ultimate A-Z Bar Guide has a weird index where you need to know the main liquor involved before you can look up the drink!! What if you dont know?" The Ultimate A-to-Z Bar Guide is A to Z like a dictionary so you look in the main body of the book. If you're looking for "Bushwhacker" look under the Bs, if you're looking for a "Knickerbocker Cocktail" look under the Ks. It seems pretty straight forward to me. I think the four indexes are terrific and I have not seen another book like this where you can look up by 1-drinks by alcohol type, 2- drinks by primary non-alcoholic ingredient, 3-drinks by classic categories or 4-drinks by special category.

(More customer reviews)I had a chance to meet Mrs. Rink at the Cleveland Food Show as well as watch one of her demonstrations. I must say she is as fun as her cookie recipies are! Her energy and sense of humor made the presentation a blast to watch. I then purchased her book. I figured that my normal Christmas cookies could use a little "pick me up". (How many Peanut Butter cookies can I make?) I do not bake alot and would not even consider myself a novice, however the simplicity of her recipies was incredible! I have thus far made 4 different recipies from her book. They all have turned out great! I have gotten great feedback (no pun intended) from my bakery treats and people love it when I tell them the drink name each bakery item is modeled after. The cookies do really taste like their drink counterparts...( The drinks are something I do know about!) however you are not going to get arrested for a DUI after a few of these. I am looking forward to making more!! Say goodbye to boring cookies and Hello to fun creative baking with a twist!!!!

The New York Bartender's Guide: 1300 Alcoholic and Non-Alcoholic Drink Recipes for the Professional and the Home Review

(More customer reviews)Let's be honest -- when it comes to mixed drinks, there's probably about two dozen that any bartender really needs to know, and although they drift in and out of popularity (I'm pretty sure there's a lot more caipirinhas and cosmos out there than old-fashioneds or rum flips), the top of the list isn't going to be very taxing on a bartender's memory. That, of course, is why we have bartender guides -- something that can be kept behind the bar next to the cash register in case a patron wants something that isn't that easy to remember.
This particular book is a nicely presented one, with color pictures and organized by spirit (with two indexes, one by drink, one by subject). I had some friends throw drink names at me and most of them came up in the book, so it's definitely got all the important ones. However, it is a rather conservative book -- apart from the fairly famous edgily-named ones like Sex on the Beach, a lot of the more twisted drinks I've heard of like the Apple F***er, the Adios Mother, and the Cement Mixer don't really show up in here, at least not under their real names. (You may have better luck with some of the more humorous ones like Bartending For Dummies or a shot book.)
Honestly there's nothing too terribly exciting going on in here, and for the most part it's probalby interchangeable with Mr. Boston or The Bartenders Black Book, or for that matter half a dozen other well-written, comprehensive bar guides. It's prettier than most bar books you'll find, with glossy pages and lots of color photography, so if you're the sort who likes to just browse things like this, it's an excellent choice for that. If you're in the market, try it out.

(More customer reviews)I was originally looking for a "regular" Mr. Boston book to arm myself with drink recipes for the occasional entertaining my wife and I do at our home. The book had been recommended to me by several friends as being the best bar guide available so I came to Amazon to begin my search. It was here I discovered Mr. Boston Platinum Edition. I ordered the book, it arrived quickly and I'm very impressed.
The book contains a lot more information than just drink recipes. It is an intersesting read and I was surprised to see a history of the origin of a lot of popular drinks. I love a good Manhattan and now I know the city, the "inventor" and the bar where this drink was developed. I also know the difference in the ingredients, what makes whiskey bourbon, rye, etc.
Many of the drinks in Mr. Boston have variations and they are listed with the reasons for the differences. I even know why a drink should be either shaken or stirred.
What I really like besides all the recipes is the section on essential home bar equipment. I have already looked at the web sites suggested in the book and started to order the equipment I need to outfit our new home bar.
The recipes have been contributed by many professional "mixologists" and it is evident that they take pride in their profession.
The book itself is very nice looking and well constructed. The ringed binder is sturdy and the book lay flat so I can read it while my hands are full of bottles and strainers.
This is the perfect book for me, being a beginner, and I highly recommend it for the home bar owner or for professional bartenter who is interested in the right way or a new way to mix a drink and arming himself with many interesting facts to relate to his customers.

He covers everything from the rules and techniques for brewing a great glass of tea (from which a great glass of ICED tea may be made) to what other countries like to serve in their iced tea glasses.
I learned quite a bit from this slim volume. For instance, why Southerners like their "sweet tea" so sweet (read the book to find out!) and how tea can be used in a fantastically good smoothie (again, read the book!). This would make a lovely hostess gift for some summer weekend at the beach!
