Complementary and Alternative Medicine and Multiple Sclerosis Review

Complementary and Alternative Medicine and Multiple Sclerosis
Average Reviews:

People diagnosed with an incurable disease are too-often targets of terribly unscrupulous or questionable methods of helping or curing them. When conventional medicine cannot cure us it is, to some degree, understandable. Dr. Bowling has put together a well-researched book that briefly discusses CAMs and various therapies, including yoga, tai chi, dietary supplements, vitamins and so forth. Each is briefly described, treatment method discussed, any known scientific research is summarized, side effects noted, practical information listed, and a conclusion and additional reading sources detailed. Dr. Bowling does note that some therapies, while not proven to help those with MS, may seem to help because of the "placebo effect." If it causes no harm, why not try it? However, some of these therapies can be detrimental to those with MS and it is wise to know what those are. This is a book for those who want objective and documented information. Some will claim it is biased against CAMs or undocumented therapies, but I did not find that to be the case. I found it very helpful.

The first edition of this authoritative book quickly became the single source for accurate and unbiased information on complementary and alternative medicine approaches for the management of MS symptoms. The second edition, completely updated throughout, reflects advances in the field since the book's initial publication in 2001. Therapies are organized alphabetically so that readers can easily pinpoint a specific treatment and learn about its origins, merits, and possible uses in MS. In-depth discussions cover Naltrexone, acupuncture, biofeedback, chiropractic medicine, cooling therapy, yoga, diets, the use of supplements, herbs, vitamins, and minerals, and many other topics. This invaluable guide alerts MS patients and their families to new options for relief when conventional therapies are limited; directs them to therapies that are effective, low-risk, and inexpensive; and helps them recognize those that are ineffective, dangerous, and costly.

Food As Medicine: How to Use Diet, Vitamins, Juices, and Herbs for a Healthier, Happier, and Longer Life Review

Food As Medicine: How to Use Diet, Vitamins, Juices, and Herbs for a Healthier, Happier, and Longer Life
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
"Your body has the ability to heal itself if you just give it a chance. Using food as medicine gives [you] the greatest chance of all to heal....What you eat can either prevent cancer and other chronic illnesses or help cause them....My number one recommendation is to eat a rainbow of fresh fruits and vegetables every day." Dharma Singh Khalsa, M.D.
FOOD AS MEDICINE is a must-read for all, particularly those who dislike fruits and/or vegetables but want to be healthy and prevent diseases because the doctor explains clearly and succinctly what each food can do for your body. He also has a chapter about each common illness and what he recommends eating to overcome the illness. He reminds us that by cutting down on total calories consumed while eating nutritionally dense food, we can increase our life span by as much as thirty percent.
Dr. Khalsa writes a chapter about each of his seven principles of yoga nutritional therapy to help you restore balance to your body, mind and soul. They are:
1 Detoxify your body. (If fasting isn't for you, you can take two 450 mg aloe vera tablets at night or go on a monodiet.)
2 Go organic. ("The switch to organic food is vital if we are to save our environment.")
3 Limit or eliminate genetically engineered foods. (Examples include: aspartame, canola, corn, cotton, crook-necked yellow squash, dairy products, papaya, potatoes, soybeans, and tomatoes.)
4 Eat clean protein. (Buffalo, rabbit, ostrich, and venison are some non-traditional sources. I personally enjoy the latter very much. Choose chicken and fish--preferably wild salmon or other oily fish. Shark, swordfish and tuna also have potential problems with contamination--mercury, lead, cadmium, chromium and arsenic. Also soy protein and definitely beans and legumes are great--they have almost no fat and are rich in fiber and good carbohydrates.)
5 Discover juicing and supplements. (I don't do this one because there is more fiber in the fruit than the juice and that is good if you want to avoid getting type 2 diabetes down the road.)
6 Cook consciously and eat mindfully. (Chew slowly, savor your food, sit down and relax and "remember that everything we eat comes from God, as do our health and healing.")
7 Make the transition to the yoga nutritional therapy diet. ("By following a plant-based diet, you will find that you have improved focus and higher productivity in your daily life.")
My favorite part is the valuable information about each food (chapter 5) as well as the anti-aging in chapter 18. I've eaten blueberries every day since I've read this book because "blueberrries contain the highest antioxidant capability...comes from a class of flavonoids called anthocyanins...blueberries protect against brain aging, heart disease and cancer. The most astounding aspect of research on blueberries has been in the area of brain longevity."
Soar into healthy eating! Just adding one fruit or vegetable a day is a good habit to start. Do it!

The People's Pharmacy Guide to Home and Herbal Remedies Review

The People's Pharmacy Guide to Home and Herbal Remedies
Average Reviews:

This book is a must for any serious medical library. The section on herbs is as close as I've seen to a PDR (Physician's Desk Reference) for herbs--active ingredients, dose, adverse effects, etc. The authors have done a great job pulling together what information on herbs is out there into a very useful format. The section on home remedies is also very nice. Who would have ever guessed a coconut macaroon could be medically useful? ... or meat tenderizer. (Not to mention having few side effects.) Some of the stories of how these home remedies were discovered also make for good reading. Overall, a wonderfully useful compendium of natural remedies that values both empirical as well as anectdotal knowledge.

This diet drink actually works if you use it right and dont eat anything else. I lost 4 pounds in one day..probably due to the fact that I didnt eat all day. Only drank this juice, which was suprisingly good tasting. Also it does not make you poop which I thought, but thats a good thing. So its not a cleanser. Only problem is that you will probably gain the weight back if you start eating normal.

i love this stuff for several reasons:
1. when mixed with a glass of V-8 juice, you get 4 servings of vegetables in one drink.
2. it gives me servings of vegetables I would not normally cook. it balances all the greens, reds, yellows, purples, etc
3. it tastes ok.
i don't like the apple flavored stuff but this zesty tomato is pretty good.

Nature's Pearl Premium Muscadine Grape Seed Supplement, 60-Count Bottle Review

Nature's Pearl Premium Muscadine Grape Seed Supplement, 60-Count Bottle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I started taking Natures Pearl supplement a little over a month ago after battling Crohns disease for 8 years as well as Fibromyalgia and high blood pressure. I had been to half a dozen specialists, taken more medications than I can count and participated in numerous drug studies looking for something to put me into remission or at the least stabilize my symptoms. I had undergone a small bowel resection as well as other surgeries for my Crohns and nothing helped. My fibromyalgia on top of it was so painful I could hardly walk at times. I felt as if I'd gone from 31 years old to 80. I couldn't participate in family activities, functions and could barely get through a simple work day. Two days after I started Natures Pearl (which I had started reluctantly since I'd already tried every natural and prescription remedy with no luck) I woke up and felt incredibly good. At first I assumed it was some kind of fluke and I actually had a good day after over a year of suffering with these painful symptoms. After a week of waking up completely rested, absolutely NO pain from the Fibromyalgia and no more stomach pain from my Crohns I was convinced it had to be from these supplements. I have never experienced anything like this from anything I've tried...no more swelling in my feet, legs and hands. My moods in general were noticeably improved. What amazed me the most was the fact that I was actually able to stop several of my medications, my anti-anxiety, anti-depressant, diuretic, prescription sleep aid...I've been so alert, and well rested every morning and tired and ready for bed by 10pm (with NO sleep aids, OR caffeine!!). I am actually saving over $70 a month on prescriptions alone that I no longer need! Undoubtedly I signed up right away to become a distributor with the confidence and my own personal testimony I KNEW if this helped me it could do wonders for other people. I recently started a severe diabetic on NP and his blood sugar has stayed at 90 and lower! I started my 10 year old daughter after I found toxic ingredients listed on both of our vitamins, she has already brought her grades up at school, has a great attitude and has said herself how much more alert she feels at school instead of that "bored and groggy" feeling.
I wish I'd known about this product a lot sooner, I would have started my father on it in a heartbeat who suffered with Rheumatoid Arthritis and passed away from cancer almost a year ago. I have no doubt that this supplement would have done wonders for him as well.
The skin care products are just as impressive, even though I've never been big into exfoliating and moisturizing like most woman my age I have actually seen a huge difference in just my hands, after working in the medical field and constantly washing my hands they normally felt like sandpaper. I use the lotion everyday now and no matter how much I was my hands I seem to maintain normal, soft skin.
Needless to say I would HIGHLY recommend this product to anyone of any age. I think we ALL know someone who could benefit from this product whether it just be for energy, anxiety, skin care or more frustrating health problems as I had mentioned in my testimony.

Nutrihill Resveratrol Lozenges Review

Nutrihill Resveratrol Lozenges
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Resveratrol is a polar compound, very insoluble in water and hence saliva. To get sufficient Resveratrol absorbed a Resveratrol lozenge would have to stay in the mouth and be slowly dissolved. The lozenge would have to contain enough Resveratrol since most of the Resveratrol will be swallowed with the saliva. A better known and competing product contains only about a milligram of Resveratrol. These lozenges contain 20 milligrams. Nutrihill Resveratrol lozenges dissolve very slowly and contain, IMO, just the right amount of Resveratrol to optimize absorption. Most of the product will be swallowed but that's OK as just fractions of a milligram need to be absorbed though the mouth's mucosa to produce sustained high levels of Resveratrol in the blood and be absorbed into the cells to do some real good. I can see where many producers of Resveratrol products like, for example Revgenetics, would not want this product to catch on as their selling point is how well they try to increase absorption of Resveratrol in the digestive system. Taking Quercetin helps protect Resveratrol when swallowed from first pass liver metabolism, but at an additional financial cost which makes suppliers happy because they can sell more supplements. An additional cost of taking Quercetin with Resveratrol is joint inflammation.
I hope this product catches on so it's available from many sellers. Nutrihill Resveratrol Lozenges

I was having trouble healing after surgery and went to a Doctor who was a good nutritionist and he directed me to another green product but it cost to much. I looked for one that was close to the one the Dr. Nutritionist had recommended for me for my problem and this came very close. It did the job for me! Your needs would be different! All I can say is this one worked for me. I can not say what it would do for you but for me It is worth the cost! I enjoy this product once daily. I drink my smoothie made from several different recites, below is one of my favorite recites. If you are having trouble like me; I would encourage you to find a good Doctor who is a Nutritionist also. He was such a help for me. Diet: I am not using sugar and I am eating healthy as well.
One banana, 1 serving vanilla protein power, 1 serving Energy green, 1/2 cup cracked ice, and liquid vanilla cream Stevana to taste.

Juven Therapeutic Nutrition Drink Mix - Orange Review

Juven Therapeutic Nutrition Drink Mix - Orange
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Juven was recommended to me by a third degree connection as something that might expedite the healing of a wound I had. I expected what the box told me to expect: signs of healing might begin within two weeks of starting to use the product. Boy was I surprised when I noticed newly developed signs of rapid healing within 48 hours of my first drink!
While taking Juven (which I began toward the end of a long period of post-surgical bed rest) I have also noticed a sharp increase in muscle growth and definition all around, as well as an improved ability to re-acclimate to physical activity and exercise.
I highly recommend this product to anyone who is recovering from surgery, has wounds that are healing slowly or not at all, or even those who need a boost in lean muscle growth and endurance (though that isn't officially recommended by the makers of Juven.) Those people in the aforementioned category who like the taste of Gatorade should particularly enjoy orange flavored Juven.

The only good thing that I can say about this seeller is that the Monavie arrived in a timely manner. I requested and paid for the green bottles of Active Monavie, and received the regular purple bottles instead. I made numerous attempts to contact the seller but he never got back to me. Do not use this seller ever !! I was disappointed because up to this point I have never ever had any problems with anything that I have purchased at Amazon. I have received products in the past that were not what I ordered or expected, but Amazon has always stood behind their products 100%. I will look more carefully to see how long a seller has been with Amazon the next time I order.

Natures Way Alive Liquid Multi-Vitamin Review

Natures Way Alive Liquid Multi-Vitamin
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I came across Alive from the recommendations of a co-worker. I am interested in supplements, organic foods, etc in keeping the body healthy and like the idea that this product comes from the expelled nutrients from plants, mushrooms and other sources.
First people notice is the color and taste. On some sights people refer to this product as "swamp juice". Initially I took the vitamins as a cap full shot every morning, followed by drinking some juice or water. The taste is not terrible, but it's better to not let it linger. I found mixed results with this method though, since in the morning I often was taking this on an empty stomach. I would get the nausea associated with taking any heavy dose on an empty stomach. But if you take this vitamin as a shot you will probably feel a instant charge of energy, or in the following minutes, much like a shot of caffeine or oxygen. It quite surprised me the first time it happened, Alive indeed!
Now the method I use it to fill a BPA free water bottle with 1/3 water, the cap full of Alive vitamin, and then the remainder with a fruit juice (either orange or grapefruit). This makes a tasty beverage that I can sip on all day and slowly absorb the vitamins instead of receiving them all in a shocking jolt.
Between this and the other supplements I take (Zinc, Vit C) I did not get any flu or cold this winter, and I work with kids for a living.
With my next statement realize I have no medical expertise at all, and obviously check with a Dr concerning any issues with medication, supplements or other treatment. Disclaimer aside: I suffer from clinical major-depression. It terrible to deal with in the winter time especially. I often react very poorly to anti-depressants since I don't enjoy taking pharmaceuticals and can usually feel the side effects pretty severely.
I swear that this has been the cheapest, most effective step in helping me use holistic methods to combat depression. It gives me an extra boost and I feel like body and brain are humming along much better, which gives me motivation to exercise, meditate, etc. It helps maintain this UPWARD cycle! So I have written off the cost of Alive as I'd rather pay $25 a month for this vitamin than hundreds for medications that have mixed results.
So although this takes more effort than just popping a pill I would say it's well worth that effort. I have been taking it for about 6 months straight and while I don't feel that super blast of energy anymore I feel like my daily level of energy, mental health and creativity has taken a boost! Hope this review helps!
