The section on herbs is as close as I've seen to a PDR (Physician's Desk Reference) for herbs--active ingredients, dose, adverse effects, etc. The authors have done a great job pulling together what information on herbs is out there into a very useful format. The section on home remedies is also very nice. Who would have ever guessed a coconut macaroon could be medically useful? ... or meat tenderizer. (Not to mention having few side effects.) Some of the stories of how these home remedies were discovered also make for good reading. Overall, a wonderfully useful compendium of natural remedies that values both empirical as well as anectdotal knowledge.
