The Food & Mood Cookbook: Recipes for Eating Well and Feeling Your Best Review

This cookbook is one of the best I've come by for people who have average to above average cooking experience and who are looking for very tasty, healthy meals. Everything I've made from this book has come out excellent and the ingredients are common to most cooks' kitchens, so you don't have to search extensively for exotic spices, etc. With some slight modifications, I have been able to improve a number of these recipes based on my individual tastes. I'm particularly fond of the soups and find that they are extremely quick and easy to make.
Enjoy and eat well!

There are lots of reasons why you might not be in a good mood. If you thought it was because of a bad relationship, you'd probably check out a relationship book. And, if you thought it was because you needed more exercise, you'd check out a book on exercise (BTW rec. Exercise Beats Depression for that). Having said that, this is a great book to check out if you think your nutrition might play a role in your moods AND you want to learn what it is you can do about it. So what does the book cover? Well, the book is about and inch and a quarter thick and among other things, discusses...
-how food can affect your mood
-a self-assessment of your diet
-a section on sweets and cravings
-diet and energy levels
-diet and PMS, SAD
-stress and your diet
-smart foods
-foods and your sleep
-eating disorders
-the "Feeling Good diet"
-supplements
As you can see, the book is quite comprehensive, and there's really not a nutritional stone that's been left unturned. I don't know that anyone needs to read every page of this book cover-to-cover, as not everyone will need to know about all its info (such as PMS). Instead, look at this book as a tremendous resource to refer to, and a big step in covering all your "nutritional bases" when it comes to food and feeling good.

Potatoes Not Prozac: Solutions for Sugar Sensitivity Review

When I first found Dr. DesMaisons work I was actually looking for a diet book. I was deep in eating disorders and the last thing I needed was to lose more weight. So when I picked up this book seeing "weight loss" on the cover I had no idea how my life would change. I have discovered that my problems with eating had nothing to do with will power, but with a biochemistry that set me up to have no impulse control, erradict blood sugar levels, low self-esteem, depression, even my eating disorder was strongly tied in (I've vacillated between bulimia and anorexia since I was 14, and I'm 31 now).
This book gives the science and the stories behind those who share this biochemistry. It lays out a food based, that's right a *food based* and natural program to heal your biochemistry. The revision is amazing because it incorporates years of practice with thosands of people all over the world into the steps, making them even better. Not to mention you'll see quotes and stories from those who have experienced recovery all throughout the book. I don't know about you, but I find such power in knowing that others have shared the same path!
It has now been seven years since I first read Dr. DesMaisons work, I have a stable relationship, a fantastic job that I never would've thought I was "worthy" of in the past, a joy for life that I thought was only possible when under the influence--and relief from my eating disorders. It is so ironic that what I thought was the problem (food), is actually the solution. Who knew? Well, obviously, Dr. DesMaisons did, and for that I am eternally grateful.
