This book starts out great with the discussion of how food can inflame the body with an unbalanced intake of omega 6 and omega 3 fatty acids. However the authors must be unaware that all grains, legumes and most seeds have a 20:1 ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 making them inflammatory. Several recipes in the book are then inflammatory because of the grain. This is a tough pill to swallow but it appears that the human genome functions better with a balanced 1:1 ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 fatty acids and this genetic trait was in place before agricultural practices which led to grain consumption and more recently seed oils which are very inflammatory. Foods consumed prior to agriculture would have been fruits and vegetables, wild game, fish and moderate portion of nuts. Ironically all these foods have a well balanced ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 fatty acids. Go Paleo!!

I've been following Dr. Dean Ornish's work for many years. His books have helped transform my life for the better.
What I especially love about this book (which I think is his best by far) is that it provides a full spectrum of diet and lifestyle choices that are grounded in science (much of which he and his associates have conducted themselves and published in leading medical journals) yet it's easy to understand and fun to read.
Having been on and off many diets over the years, I like his "spectrum" approach because it doesn't tell me what to eat and do. Instead, it provides a range of choices that allow me to decide what's best for me. It treats the reader with intelligence, which I find empowering and motivating.
One of the main points of this book is that pleasure and joy are sustainable, not fear and guilt, and the recipes in this book (by Art Smith) really reflect that. Works for me!

I am pre-diabetic. My fasting blood glucose level is 120. I read about this product "Life Extension Blueberry Extract Capsules" and said let me try it. Well, I must say it does exactly what is says. My fasting blood glucose is now 90 after one week of use. I hope it keeps going down to around 78 but so far I am very happy with this product.
