As a Radio Talk Show Host, I have interviewed Jack Challem over many years. He has been spot on in following the inflammation process and what it does to the body. His latest updated book, The Inflammation Syndrome is a great guide. So many of my listeners are confused as to what to eat and what vitamins to take. Is it a high protein, low carb diet, high fiber or do you trust the governments food pyramid? What is a healthy diet today? Do you believe what the clerk at the health food store claims?
Challem carefully combs studies from all over the world. He is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to nutrition, vitamins and minerals. Some may disagree with his advise he gave out on irritable bowel syndrome. Please don't dismiss the book just because of a small disagreement. Overall, his book is extremely helpful in designing a dietary plan that addresses individual needs and health issues. I find the supplement recommendations very helpful from an expert who receives no compensation from the industry.
I endorsed his book on my show.
Cheers to good health.

This book starts out great with the discussion of how food can inflame the body with an unbalanced intake of omega 6 and omega 3 fatty acids. However the authors must be unaware that all grains, legumes and most seeds have a 20:1 ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 making them inflammatory. Several recipes in the book are then inflammatory because of the grain. This is a tough pill to swallow but it appears that the human genome functions better with a balanced 1:1 ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 fatty acids and this genetic trait was in place before agricultural practices which led to grain consumption and more recently seed oils which are very inflammatory. Foods consumed prior to agriculture would have been fruits and vegetables, wild game, fish and moderate portion of nuts. Ironically all these foods have a well balanced ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 fatty acids. Go Paleo!!
