I was given this book by my mom. This book is gorgeous. Some of the most intriguing food photos I've ever seen...However, when you leaf through the recipes coming from numerous notable, impressive pastry chefs you quickly realize that this is out of most home cook's league. Many of the desserts have an INCREDIBLY long list of ingredients. And, many of the ingredients are very obscure. Furthermore, the techniques (can you say - blown sugar!) are more difficult and time consuming than most regular at-home cooks can handle. However, there are a few anticipated gems - portions of recipes like an interesting sorbet flavor - which show some promise and are on my list of things to try (however probably wouldn't cause me to buy the book just for that). If you're a wannabe NYC pastry chef, OR someone who wants a great coffee table book, this book is for you. However if you want a dessert book that gives you impressive results with relative ease, this one isn't your best bet.

What a remarkable discovery! It's one thing to find a book on wine, another to find a book on food, and something unheard of to find one book on both that so perfectly expresses the joys of marriage between food and beverage. This was a truly ingenious tome that belongs in every kitchen.
For those of you who are visually inclined, you might be a tad disappointed. Only some of the recipes include pictures. Still, considering the subject matter and the great plethora of facts, tidbits, and ideas, you are not missing out. Each type of wine (most if not all) is given a treatment, from a brief background, to what to expect in regards to flavors and aromas. From there, you are guided to the perfect food matches that complement and heighten those aspects of the wine (and vice versa).
Wine and food have long been enjoyed together. Sometimes, we miss out by not having the right wine with the right course. This is your guide, your Magellan for sailing the culinary world. I am so glad that I own this wonderful book. It made a great gift to me from a dear friend, I'm sure your friends would love a copy of it as well! A must-own!

This book is riddled with factual errors. The author needed a proof reader and the publisher needed a proper editor. The book was too expensive to have so many problems with it.

No one has better recipes than Southern Living except my wife. The only thing better than the recipes in this book is the photograpy.This is how food is suppose to look. A cookbook without pictures leaves you wondering do I really want to try this dish? This book shouts "I sure do!" Though not evey entre' is photographed, enough are to make you hungry to try them out. And what good is a cook book that is never opened. A great gift for the cook in your life.
