I love the idea of being able to make your favorite foods at home. I often try to re-create my favorite restaurant meals at home. I was very excited when I purchased this book, but the recipes were a bit of a let down. The food was good, but it didn't taste exactly the same as it does in the restaurant. I have found that the recipes are a good starting point, and that once I play with the ingredients, I usually get a good dish. For example, I had to change some of the proportions in the Chicken Saltimboca to get it to taste more similar to the restaurant dish. The other thing that was a bit of a disappointment was that a lot of the recipes seem pretty generic. For example, the Golden Corral roll recipe is a recipe I've seen several times. I was hoping for recipes that represented the restaurants' uniqueness better.

I first heard of Kim Bensen on the Weight Watchers community message boards. She's marketed her own low calorie bagels and I was searching for her website for this information. I found much more than bagels. I've never met her in person, but I found that Kim is helpful and kind to those who email her. I found out about this book on her website and couldn't wait to read it...got it the first day it was avail and couldn't lay it down until I was finished.
Her book is brutally honest and I applaud her for speaking so frankly about her struggles with dieting and obesity. It's the kind of book that will inspire you to keeping going, or inspire you to get started on a life changing plan for eating if you're struggling or have given up.
At some points in the book I was in tears, and at others, laughing. Her story is heartbreaking but ends in a final triumph. Her favorite line seems to be "now it's your turn". She tries to inspire others to achieve the seemingly impossible. She lost 212 lbs, kept it off and is now a very successful Weight Watchers leader.
A VERY good book for anyone, but especially those of us who need to lose weight. I HIGHLY recommend it. Also, she includes recipes. A bonus to the book!

But she never gave up and in 2001, despite years of heartbreak and discouragement, Kim tried again. This time was different and the results were phenomenal: 212 pounds lost forever, fourteen dress sizes, four ring sizes, one and a half shoe sizes, and 200 points of cholesterol gone for good! In the end, Kim not only changed her health and size, but also her career. The clamor of "How did you do it?" by desperately struggling individuals as well as the national media motivated her to sit down and pen into words what she had put into action. In Finally Thin!, Kim Bensen recounts her own success story and then breaks down her success into a ten-step system, showing readers exactly how she accomplished her weight-loss goal. From choosing the right diet for your needs to setting realistic goals, finding support, eating out, recovering from a slipup, the keys to maintenance, and even 75 recipes, this book covers it all in an upbeat, inspirational, and approachable tone. CopyKat.com's Dining Out at Home Cookbook: Recipes for the Most Delicious Dishes from America's Most Popular Restaurants Review

CopyKat.com's Dining Out at Home Cookbook: Recipes for the Most Delicious Dishes from America's Most Popular Restaurants

[...] is a website where one can find over 1500 recipes that duplicate famous offerings from popular restaurants (mostly chains), as well as a few from grocery stores and products on grocery store shelves that are better fresh than made from a box. The question some may ask is, "Why would you make Boston Market meatloaf at home when you can just go over to Boston Market and have it?" Good question.
Many people have visited, but do not live near, the Olive Garden, Outback Steakhouse, Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, or Boston Market (among the many restaurants included in Dining Out at Home). Cravings for Outback's Queensland Chicken and Shrimp or Rainforest Café's Caribou Coconut Chicken (pictured) may not be strong enough to warrant the round trip to a distant restaurant.
No one can promise that the Wendy's Chili copy you make will taste exactly like the chili you get at Wendy's, but then again, it's not made with chopped-up, leftover hamburgers and is, in fact, a whole lot better than the original. Home chefs are not guaranteed restaurant results, but most of the dishes are equal to the originals or close enough to satisfy that T.G.I. Friday's Nine-Layer Dip jones from which one suffers.
The techniques for creating the poser dishes are not difficult, however some of the recipes are complex and require a multitude of ingredients. The time spent in the kitchen for a few of the recipes will exceed the time it takes to order dinner and eat it in the restaurant. However, for those who actually enjoy cooking, there's lots of fun to be had in recreating popular dishes, as well as reinventing them. It's important to remember, though, that [...] Dining Out at Home Cookbook recipes are not the original recipes from the source restaurants, but [...] version of those recipes. "No sponsorship or endorsement by, or affiliation with, the trademark owners is claimed or suggested by the author or publisher."
Recipes for dips, desserts, entrees, drinks, salads, and side orders are included in this collection. In addition to the restaurants already mentioned, others inspiring recipes are Jack in the Box, Red Lobster, The Cheesecake Factory, Chili's, IHOP, Brennan's, Hooters, Cinnabon, and many others.

The Southern Living cookbook series is a great set of books, but the compilation books are above the grade. Even though I already owned the The All New Ultimate Southern Living Cookbook: Over 1,250 of Our Best Recipes (Southern Living (Hardcover Oxmoor)), I decided to get this one as well. Several of the pages of my cookbook are permanently marked due to the repeat times I've made several of the dishes here.
The Banana Nut Bread (page 55) is a great breakfast staple. The Eye of Round Roast with Garlic Potatoes (page 109) makes a great dinner, but even better lunch the day after. The Baby Blue Salad (page 176) is delicious and quick to make in any season. As for desserts, you can't go wrong with the Pecan Pie Cake (page 314), the Italian Cream Cake (page 319) or the many, many others.
